FFwD - Potato Chip Tortilla

As Dorie says this is a "FAST"..." version of the traditional Basque tortilla".  And its not bad, not bad at all.  My problem is coming up with one good reason to put potato chips in my tortilla. (I mean one reason beside the obvious one that its the recipe for this week.) I seriously considered passing, yet again, on this recipe but its so simple I gave it a go. Next time if I don't have the time/inclination to peel and cook potatoes for my tortilla I'll pick up a package of prepared potatoes in the dairy case.  I'd rather save my potato chips to go with a tuna sandwich.

That sounds bitchy, doesn't it?  Its not my intention.  Maybe my frustration over the photography is showing.  The picture taking has become more important to me than the cooking!  I sit around thinking of recipes to make so I can take pictures of different things.  I'm investing in equipment, hoping to make my life easier and my pictures better and it still took me over an hour to get this shot!  Actually, as I think it over, this was one of the first shots I took!!!  I might be getting Christmas Crazy!

You'll want to see what other French Friday cooks thought of the recipe!

  1. Hang in there!
It is certainly an odd concept. I waver back & forth about whether or not I would try again. I guess it will depend on my mood.

  2. I'm with you on the potato chips in my eggs. Didn't feel right to me. Hope you enjoy your new equipment! I understand the hour long photos trying to captute a good one - I've been trying to do the same thing and learn how to use the ISO and my new camera better. Happy Holidays!

  3. Hi, Lola!

I think your photo is great! I did take a pass on this recipe as I'm not a fan of egg dishes to begin with and the combination didn't appeal to my husband, either.

I'm feeling very antsy myself these days - I think it's just feeling like there's so much left to do before Christmas. Hang in there! xoxo

  4. Your picture is perfect! I liked the ease of the potato chips in the tortilla. Plus it was a way to use up leftover chips. When I buy chips to go with a weekend lunch, we never seem to finish the bag. I hope the rest of your holidays are sane and that you get over being Christmas Crazy.

  5. It's a great photo, Lola! We often tear up tortillas and fry them a little before mixing them in with eggs and cooking them in a similar way as this recipe, so using crushed potato chips didn't seem weird to me even though I, like you, usually only eat potato chips as a side to a sandwich.

  6. I totally understand. My poor husband has gotten used to waiting for me to finish taking pictures before he is allowed to eat. It's hard not to get a little obsessed isn't it?

In either case, your photo looks great. And that's saying something since it is not one of Dorie's more photogenic recipes.

  9. Your picture looks so colourful, a real eyecatcher. But I do agree that cookiing recipes for my blog takes about an hour of extra time. And sometimes I forgot and become in a rush. But the pictures in your blog are looking great.
