FFwD - Coconut-Lemongrass-Braised Pork

I'm late posting and can't think of anything to say about food.  I have this little distraction visiting me!  How am I to think about food, write about food when all I can think of is this little monkey, our first grandbaby?

Luckily for me this week's recipe is easy and delicious.  Dorie suggests using pork butt and I was tempted to use a leaner cut like a pork loin but I had just heard Dr. Zorba on NPR talking about eating fat and how the French eat foods higher in fat than we Americans do.  He said the French eat smaller amounts of good food while Americans eat
large amounts of bad food.  My plan was to use the fatter cut of pork and eat less.  Good plan but I don't know that I ate less.  What can I do?  I am American!  Just have to work out a little more I guess.

  1. Hi, Lola! What a cutie-pie! I think that's true, in general, about Mediterranean cuisine - it just tastes better. It also has to do with the mass scale on which we produce food in the U.S. What they never seem to take into account is that Europeans walk a lot more than Americans, too, which certainly helps.

    We thought this was an easy dish that would be good to prepare for company.

  3. Hi Lola, You're grandbaby is so sweet- a wonderful distraction I would say!
    I liked this braised pork dish and it is a simple recipe- good for everyday.
    I use my Thai basil in everything, last night in an arugula salad- I just love it;-)

  8. Congratulations ! And bonus points for somehow managing to get a gorgeous Dorie dish out there with such an amazing distraction. Nana was a fan of this week's dish but I was not sold on it- which keeps life interesting. Your stew looks amazing.

  9. Cute baby!! I think pork butt was a good choice. My dh had leftovers today and he said the pork was slightly dry (still great, though) - I used pork butt, too. He microwaved the leftovers but I think (hope) that slow re-heating in a covered pot on the stove would keep the meat moister. I will be trying it :)

  14. I love the babies and yours is so precious. I'll take the baby over the food any day. And about the portions of food we eat...made me laugh. Hubby goes to the gym at least 5 times each week plus he rides his bike 10-20 miles per week and walks on the days he does not ride...miles at night...just so he can keep eating all the food we make around here...seems silly...must be an addiction, and your dish looks really good too.

  15. What a cute baby! Congratulations! Your pork stew looks great. We didn't love it at our house, but I might try again in cooler weather. As hot as it was here this weekend, I think it's a lot hotter and drier where you are. Hope you can keep up with your garden's demands. I heard you have a drought there too :(

  16. Your dish looks really good with the potatoes ... I opted the leave potatoes out of mine, but I'll have to try it with potatoes some time. And congrats on your sweet little visitor!
