I think I have food malaise. Does this sound like a condition registered and certified by the American Medical Association or perhaps the American Psychiatric Association? I'm behind on my Dorie posts even though I'm getting up to date on my Dorie cooking...maybe its blog malaise not food malaise...humm, something to ponder.
Dorie's eggplant caviar is good. We enjoyed it immensely and made plans to share it with friends this weekend but somehow I'm not excited about it. My husband loved it and said it tastes like guacamole. Maybe that's why it didn't excite me. I'm all in favor of eating a variety of vegetables but I want eggplant to taste like eggplant not avocado. I feel like I'm being a grinch. Wait until you see what I have to say about next week's French hamburger! Check out the other French Friday cooks. They always have great ideas and fun posts!
That's funny, Lola. I wasn't able to make this because we're busy with out-of-town guests, selling a house, working long hours, etc., but I wasn't excited about it either. I love eggplant, but not mushy eggplant. But, I have to say, yours looks great.
ReplyDeleteUntil next week when I'll hopefully be better prepared! Enjoy your weekend!
Noooo, not a grinch. I had a very tough time with most of this month's choices. It's tough to write about what you just aren't feeling!
ReplyDeleteHang in there...
Interesting. Maybe it was the lemon, tomatoes and general chunkiness that reminded him of guacamole.
ReplyDeleteI made mine less chunky..left out the onion and it reminded me of baba ganoush...which I happen to love! I agree with everyone else though. Not a memorable month! I skipped the Salmon in the Jar. Have a nice week-end!
ReplyDeleteThis wasn't my favorite month, either. I'm definitely looking forward to finding out what we're dishing up in September.
ReplyDeleteHaha, it's really funny reading what your husband said about this dish, and I'm giggling uncontrollably. It's just that I actually told my kids that it IS guacamole, in an effort to get them to eat it! In this case, I was pretty glad the eggplant dip actually tasted a bit like avocado :-).
ReplyDeleteNot my favorite, either...but I think it was lacking something flavorwise. Maybe I would have liked it better if I thought it tasted like guac????
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about blog malaise. I haven't felt like writing much this summer, though I try to keep up with the FFWD posts, at least. Sorry this wasn't a favorite for you. I did enjoy it quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteYes it's definitely blog malaise, I can relate as I have a case of it, I think I need to do some wordless posts! I would like to vote on next month's choices but I'm not sure that's going to happen! I didn't like the salmon in a jar but will make the burger next Friday. Have a great weekend and hopefully we will find some inspiration;-)
ReplyDeleteI love eggplant cooked any way but have not tried this yet. This is a great idea but sorry you did not quite like it.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the blog malaise. I have a few catch up posts to do for French Fridays. I have the photos, but haven't written the posts, for some reason. Next week it's burgers - I think we'll get a lot more happy Doristas.
ReplyDeleteLola...:) I love eggplant cooked in anyway . Love this eggplant caviar and it was hit with hubby ! I made some sopes to go with it and it was yummy !
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I read in the recipe that it had to be covered with saran wrap....all I could think of was quacamole. I personally think the hectic summer, heat and schedules (not to mention the July recipes), plus having to turn on the oven again when it is about 100 degrees here...have added to the "malaise". I know I will be more into this all in the fall and winter. Nana was not a fan of this one and I can't wait to see what she does with next week's burgers...and to see what you have to say- I am curious !
ReplyDeleteYou are so right - it didn't taste like eggplant, but that's why my family liked it I think. Blog malaise - I can also relate to that!
ReplyDeleteI have to say that yours LOOKS great - nice touch with the lemon peel and basil. I love eggplant, so this one was a great way to start. My husband is not a fan however...
ReplyDeleteSorry about your malaise...hope you get out of it soon...I am making the burger tonight...the marmalade is cooking at this very moment. I am very intrigued as to what you will have to say about it!!
