Elk crossing |
Life has been hectic since I returned from Seattle and The International Food Bloggers Conference. Our son from Dallas arrived the day after I did, my sister from California later in the week, and our rowing club's biggest regatta is this weekend, along with Gary's birthday! I can hear my mom saying 'you can rest in the grave':) My mom was full of sayings. When I was younger it could be annoying. Now I smile at how often I hear her expressions in my head.
We shared our delicious salad with our good and frequent French Friday friends. The addition of a Whole Foods to our city makes last minute entertaining a breeze. I ran by and picked up a couple of cheeses, good crackers, and a few small cakes to share. This easy salad and a couple of good bottles of wine made for a fun and impromptu dinner party.

This is a French Fridays with Dorie post. Join us as for year four as we cook our way through Dorie Greenspan's Around My French Table.
Such a pretty salad you made and yes, it only requires a few extras to make a great meal!
ReplyDeleteA pretty yet simple salad does round up a great meal without much fuss! And love that generous sprinkling of capers!
ReplyDeleteColorful and appetizing salad!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove the elk picture. Sometimes we get moose up in the high peaks, but I don't know if I have ever seen a live elk.
I've never seen an elk in person, impressive. Whole Foods is new to us also, but I can't get over the prices. But you are right they do carry everything. I just keep forgetting that there is one 20 minutes away. Well anyway, great looking salad, sounds like a fun week, enjoy.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like something my mother would have said. It's true. Sounds like a busy time, but all in a good way! The salad looks like the perfect thing to share with friends for lunch. We are fortunate to have Whole Foods at every turn. This afternoon, I checked out the newest one in our area which is a block away from where I lived 25 years ago, in the former location of one of the worst grocery stores ever. The contrast amused me.
ReplyDeleteYour salad looks lovely. I'm sure it was a big hit with your guests!
ReplyDeleteahhh, well as busy as you are and have been, your salad look party perfect! :) Have a great (and relaxing and slower *I hope*) weekend Guyla!
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of the elk - there are no elk in Oz! Your salad looks delish.
ReplyDeleteA very pretty salade niçoise, looks delicious. It's nice to have people to share it with, sounds like fun.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
I hope your team rocked the regatta! That must have been so much fun. Your salad looks amazing, especially in that pretty platter. Love the beaded rim.
ReplyDeleteI have Whole Foods jealousy. We consider it and Trader Joe's tourist attractions when we travel stateside. :-)
I love both your pictures, the elk and your lovely salad. Isn't that a cow (elk). I can't see any rack. She probably is trying to get away from all the males that are pursuing her about now? You will love your Whole Foods ( a little pricey) for those special and unique things you cannot get other places. I was lucky that one opened near Aspen just before I moved back. Your salad looks delicious and I'm sure it was a treat for everyone. Egads, you didn't get to take three deep breaths after your return from Seattle. But your Mom's right. It was really, really, really great to meet you. You are fun. Enjoy your friends, your family and Happy Birthday to Gary.
ReplyDeleteI love having a Whole Foods only a couple minutes away, too. Your salad looks scrumptious...and how fun to share it with friends!
ReplyDeleteOne very lovely presentation of this classic French salad - beautifully arranged and worth many repeats, I am sure! It is wonderful to read that you and your guests certainly enjoyed this fabulous salad!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Monday!
Crackers and cheese can turn anything into a meal. With this salad your guests were very lucky! Beautifully arranged, and your eggs look perfect.
ReplyDeleteGuyla, I can’t tell you how wonderful it was to meet you! You are a delight! If you ever visit the east coast…you have a friend to stay with!
ReplyDeleteFunny how my mom’s little sayings are always in my head…the ones that always made me laugh, now prove so true! I hope your team did well in the regatta! I’m just starting to get my feet on the ground after traveling for two weeks. It was great!
Now to your lovely salad…it looks like a perfect way to enjoy your company!
