Rice Pudding with Caramel Apples |
Gary was so very excited when I told him this week's French Friday recipe. He informed me that rice pudding is his favorite food. Gary and I have been married 42 years. I never knew this was his favorite food and I have NEVER made rice pudding. Bad wifey. Bad wifey.
So for my first attempt at rice pudding I am happy to report that it was perfect! Gary said he's never had better and we both agree the apples should be made for many, many things...as an ice cream topping for sure!

Michael and Dorie Greenspan |
The International Food Bloggers Conference was a wonderful experience. I enjoyed every single Dorista present but it made me want to meet the rest of you! And meeting Dorie was as fabulous as I thought it would be. She is a nice person besides being a talented cook, baker, and author. On top of that she and her husband have the nicest relationship! I will be doing a post about the IFBC soon.
This post participates in
French Fridays with Dorie as we cook our way through
her book
Around My French Table.
The apples were my favorite. This was a great dessert. Thanks for sharing your photo. Looking forward to hearing more about the conference
ReplyDeletethe pudding looks good

ReplyDeleteI just made saukraut and kelbasa and my house of 20 years told me this was a childhood favorite. I never knew it... so I seriously relate to your husbands announcement about the rice pudding. You can live with someone a lifetime and never really know them...
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of Dorie and her husband Michael, great shot. Those two are such a wonderful couple. Tricia and I had so much fun, I can't believe it's over. I enjoyed meeting you as well as the other Doristas, and I think we truly all bonded. Your rice pudding looks delicious, we enjoyed it too. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThat rice pudding looks fantastic!! I LOVE rice pudding, but I haven't ever made it..
ReplyDeleteI think it's really funny that you didn't know rice pudding was Gary's favorite food until now. Why are men so secretive sometimes?
ReplyDeleteI loved meeting you too, Guyla! So nice to spend time with you.
Too funny, your post made me laugh out loud. My husband and I have been married 4 years and your post makes me wonder what I will be learning about him in another 40 years :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like everyone had a great time in Seattle. Lucky to meet Dorie!
ReplyDeleteYep, those apples were wonderful. And would be good over Ice Cream. Have to try that!
It was great to meet you too!
ReplyDeleteI loved that shirt Michael wore - he is too funny.
Yes, I am still finding out things. We will never learn all there is to know about them, will we?
Your rice pudding with the caramel apples and the whipped cream looks so nice and creamy – truly comfort food at its best!
ReplyDeleteSo nice that you all had such a wonderful time at the conference - unfortunately, Seattle is just so far away...
Hope life is treating you well this week!
OMG GUYLA !!! That is the best photo of Dorie & Michael, you should send it to them! :) I actually want a copy too!
ReplyDeleteLove that you added that whipped cream, dangerous life you lead! *wink*
I am not sure what is funnier- Alice's post above mine, or your original post :) I am LOL- even harder now that I have met you both in personn !!! Oh Guyla - I had such a blast spending time with you. YOU ARE THE BEES KNEES !!! And I have to tell you that when I spoke to my college son via phone I mentioned how I met "this really cool Dorista who is into crew and I talked to her about master's rowing". Silence. Utter silence. And I don't mean the "huh, what did you say Mom" (because he was texting). It was hilarious. Whether I ever move forward on that or not, it was so so so inspiring to discuss this and various other topics with you in Seattle...and it was so worth it for that reaction from my son. Priceless. Speaking of which - that photo of Dorie and Michael is the best. LOVE it. All the best and see you next Friday......PS- someone (not me) totally paid attention during Andrew S's photo session- awesome shots !!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you all enjoyed the conference. I hope there will be another FFWD event sometime....Now that you mention it I have no clue what my husband's favorite food is. I'm going to have to ask. I'm glad you both enjoyed the dessert. I'm impressed by your whipped cream piping and like the mint garnish.
ReplyDeleteYay!! So glad that you could make this for your hubby. I love rice pudding!
ReplyDeleteLove that photo! I just made the pudding recently, so am catching up on everyone's posts. Loving all the stories of IFBC. And it's good to know there are still things to learn about your partner even in a decades-long relationship! :)
