Helene's All-White Salad |
I liked this white salad but I think I might like it more as a slaw. The celery, mushrooms, Napa cabbage, and Granny Smith apples compliment one another and work best when taken together. Next time I will try shredding or slicing into very small bites. I kept the white theme going with bread and roasted chicken. The salad looks almost colorful in comparison!
This was my first mayonnaise! I loved it and can't wait to try different versions. Mine looks kind of green. That's the California Olive Ranch Extra Virgin Olive Oil. This was one of the products featured at last year's International Food Bloggers Conference. It has become my go to olive oil. The taste is very fresh and not the least over powering. Try it if you haven't already!
In my world there is lots happening. I have a new laptop, I'm moving and redesigning my blog (trying to resolve my identity crisis! More about that later.) I'll go to Dallas Friday for a while enjoying grand babies, our good friend coming Monday. As Marsha used to say "Life is good."
Go to the French Friday site to see everyone's salad!
Enjoy your grandbabies! I can't remember if I told you about the Wordpress book that I got - there are a few that are very detailed. Our winter in Palm Springs ended about three weeks ago - this past week we have had temps in the 90's - too hot for this early in the year.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's! PS, I like your idea of a slaw!
Spring is entering my part of the world as well. I am so happy more light and for sure more colour. But I did enjoy this salad even though it did lack a bit of colour! Enjoy your trip to Dallas
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a very French lunch! We're done with winter here and are also due for a big windstorm over the next few days. Have fun with the grandkids!
ReplyDeleteYes I was a huge fan of the mayo too - will be making it again soon! Love the idea of the Greek yoghurt in there!
ReplyDeleteThat whole plate looks great and I am glad you enjoyed it. Also fun to hear what you are up to and that it is "all good". Sounds pretty wonderful indeed. Enjoy those grandbabies as well as the new laptop :)
ReplyDeleteYes, it's a very white meal. Love that it's rounded out with a glass of white wine! The mayo was the best part. The whole salad reminded me of lemony cole slaw with waldorf salad mixed it. Maybe I would have liked it if I added walnuts and left out the mushrooms. Who knows. Have a great visit with your grandbabies! I'm excited for you with all the good things you have going.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea serving some chicken alongside the winter white salad - it does look very French indeed! Homemade mayonnaise is the best and depending on where I get the eggs from, it always varies in color/hues - I like the fresh green touch from the good-quality olive oil that you used!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the visit from your friend this week and have a wonderful time with your grandchildren in Dallas!
Yes, slaw might be better! I used the same olive oil...and our mayos look exactly the same!
ReplyDeletePS...send some of that warm air my way!!!
I really like your idea of turning this into a slaw. I think I would've liked it a lot better. I'm very ready for winter to be over! It's finally supposed to get up to 60 here today.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear life is good :-) Enjoy those babies!
ReplyDeleteThis was my first mayo too - wasn't it fun to make! Glad you enjoyed this salad - it wasn't popular.
ReplyDeleteSounds like life is full! I am glad you will get some time with those grandbabies! Being a grandma is one wonderful gift! Glad you enjoyed this salad…I’m with you on that! I ate mine for lunch with some goat cheese sprinkled on top!
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking of self hosting for some time…I might just be following your lead! Enjoy your visit, Guyla!
