Gratuitous Mr. B Photo with his Parents:) |
Christmas is over and The New Year is almost here (bringing our granddaughter with it). I am a maker of lists, plans, goals and resolutions and have only just started thinking of 2014 and what I want for the year. I can recycle many of my plans from 2013. I fell short in several areas!

Pumpkin-Gorgonzola Flan |
I knew gravlax, even if dilled, would NOT be eaten at my house so instead I opted for a make up post and made Pumpkin-Gorgonzola Flans. This was an early French Friday selection, November 2010. I went back to see what everyone thought of the recipe and it got mostly favorable reviews.
Betsy, I didn't add enough salt either. I was surprised by how much it needed!
Tammy said it tasted like autumn which is what my mother-in-law thought too. We all enjoyed it!
One of my Christmas presents was a White Balsamic with Pear and Cranberry Vinegar. I used it to make Dorie's Everyday Vinaigrette! Delicious!
I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday! 2014 is almost upon us. Its time to take stock and move forward. I plan to begin the new year with a clean refrigerator! How about you?
This is
French Friday with Dorie post. Join us as we cook our way through
Dorie Greenspan's book
Around My French Table.
I"m glad your peeps loved this. I did too but it never made it back to my table. I recommended it to some work mates who made it at home and they proudly came back to tell me they hated it. So I took it on the chin for that...but I thought it was unique and yes, tasted like fall!
ReplyDeleteGreat choice for an alternative to gravlax! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Guyla!
ReplyDeleteYou went waaayyy back in time for this one - bravo! Glad you enjoyed it & what a cute picture of the family.
Enjoy your clean refrigerator! (That's on my list as soon as some of this holiday food gets cleared out of there)
I LOVED this one way back when as well! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the vinegar worked well! It seemed very Guyla-esque :). Mr. B is already following in his Gigi's footsteps to become an excellent baker and cook!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Guyla! Love the photo of Mr B. I can't remember making this flan, but glad your family liked it.
ReplyDeleteMr. B is adorable! I can't wait to hear about the new grandbaby! I remember making this flan for my friends...knowing Bill would never touch this. Happy New Year, my friend!!!
ReplyDeleteGood job, Guyla! It's good to know what will and won't get eaten in your own house. I don't remember this one fondly, so it was fun to go back and read what I wrote. Sounds like I enjoyed it more than I remember so I'll have to try it again. Good luck with the clean refrigerator! I've been trying to empty out my deep freezer(s) in the basement. That was one of the motivations for starting my blog in the first place. I haven't made much progress, and it's going on 4 years of blogging. I am another one for recycling my plans year after year. I wish you and your family a very Happy New Year, Guyla! I was so happy to meet you earlier this year.
ReplyDeleteI never made this one.. but it looks so flavorful. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteGuyla you brought back memories that I want to forget. I think that was one I truly did not enjoy, and if I recall, only
ReplyDeleteTricia's husband ate it. This has been a wonderful year meeting you in Seattle, the whole IFBC was such an experience,
wasn't it? I wish you and your family a very happy and healthy New Year .
I really have to go back and revisit this one! It sounds and looks wonderful…glad everyone enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteGravlax is a favorite with my family…it may be a New York thing, you know Bagels, cream cheese and lox!
The New Year holds some wonderful things for you, Guyla…especially your new granddaughter! I’m sending you and your family all good wishes for the coming year! May your New Year be Happy, Healthy and Joyful!! Hugs!
Love that picture of your family and Baby B :) Good for you for doing a catch up week if no one would give the gravlax "any play". I soldiered on since my family actually wanted it....thankfully they liked it AND ate it. Which is saying a lot since Nana has been feeding us the whole holiday season and no one has been too hungry lately. I too am a maker of lists and I too can easily recycle a few items on my 2013 list. But thankfully some items got knocked out that were unexpected and wonderful. Meeting you in person and have that absolute delight of a visit, and getting a new friend in Oklahoma was one of them. Hopefully the wonderful surprises that come with life will be just as fabulous in 2014. Different, but fabulous. So looking forward to the upcoming granddaughter news- keep us posted. Happiest of New Year's to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteGuyla, I have never made Pumpkin-Gorgonzola Flan either since I didn't join until February of 2011. It looks delicious. I like both pumpkin and gorgonzola so what's not to enjoy about this. I think I'll try it also in the next few months. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I haven't made Dorie's Everyday Vinaigrette so that's on my must-do list. I don't think I get a diploma until I get all my make-ups completed! Now I know about that little guy in the picture but is there another baby on the way? It was so wonderful meeting you in Seattle this Fall. Happy, Healthy New Year to you and that darling family of yours.
