Double Chocolate and Banana Tart |
This week's recipe leant itself well to adaptation. I loved the idea of caramelized bananas and chocolate but I knew we would not be able to eat the tart in one day and once cut I wasn't sure how well the bananas would keep.
So I tried Dorie's bonne idee and made the chocolate shortbread crust (pressed in, how easy is that?), a layer of Nutella, and then the chocolate ganache. I caramelized a few bananas to use as a garnish along with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I would pronounce it just about perfect. It would have been perfect if I had toasted some hazelnuts to scatter on top but I couldn't find any in my local grocery store and decided I wouldn't drive all over town looking for them!
The tart has kept well in the fridge and will definitely be added to my collection of easy recipes to make with things on hand...except for cream...i don't always have cream.
Our son who lives in Dallas made a last minute business trip to OKC and he pronounced it DELICIOUS!
Ice cream waits for no man or woman to snap a photo but my ice cream started melting when we discovered a baby blue jay was out of the nest a tad early and we were concerned the neighbor's cat would find him before he figured out how to get off the ground. All ended well with the baby hopping into a shrub and my husband scaring off the cat! Sorry kitty kitty!
Don't forget to check out all the French Friday cooks this week!
Great idea to top this with ice cream! I agree this is a beautiful, simple go-to dessert.
ReplyDeleteGuyla, How wonderful you got to share this with your son! Ohooo, caramelized bananas on top…Yum! Your tart looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteThe photo of your chocolate tart with vanilla ice cream and caramelized bananas on the side looks divine! Great adaptation of this recipe! Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteThe melting ice cream looks good! Nice tart!
ReplyDeleteMelting ice cream is never a bad thing - unless it's in a cone and you have to clean up the mess it made...
ReplyDeleteVery nice.
I like that idea of ice cream on the side. I had my doubts about the bananas in the fridge, but they were okay, must have been the glaze.
ReplyDeleteI love your photo with the ice cream melting, makes for a great ad. I would like to try this recipe with berries, I'm sure it would be
delicious, maybe a little whipped cream on top. Great job.
Great garnish with the caramelized banana on each slice. Yum!
ReplyDeleteOooh, I love your tart! I didn't love the raw banana on top so I wish I had thought to do your version. YUM!
ReplyDeletegood thinking on those bananas. A carameled banana garnish is a perfect idea. I want to try this tart with Nutella and maybe raspberries...that sounds good to me. Always enjoy your posts.
ReplyDeleteYour tart looks fab Guyla - and vanilla icecream would be a perfect accompaniment.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so good with the ice cream! I'm so glad you were able to get the cat away from the baby bird.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, Guyla, your son probably had to make that "last-minute" business trip after hearing that Mom was stirring up double-chocolate trouble at home! Men can be such boys over chocolate. Your tart, the nutella version (which I will do next time) looked delicious, and had to taste soooo much better as a reward after a life-saving event. Although I don't like to interfere with Mother Nature, I do not think cats and baby birds are fair adversaries. So, I salute your husband and think melted ice cream made your photo look so much more yummy. Yes, toasted hazelnuts on top next time, you're right.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, what a great idea to use the caramelized bananas on top!!! I made the Nutella hazelnut version. We really liked it. But love your idea!
ReplyDeleteI love how you adapted this! The bananas were pretty sad after a couple days...though I still had willing eaters :)
ReplyDeleteI loved the caramelized bananas better than the raw bananas, so that was a great idea to use them on top, with the nutella. Yum! Glad that the baby bluejay is safe!
ReplyDeleteOk I'm coming to visit you so I can try some of this awesomeness!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Guyla! Looks like a 5 Star dessert!
ReplyDeletewe've been trying to protect the birds from our neighbors' cats too. glad you were successful. i agree, this was the perfect tart. i followed the recipe exactly and you're right, it didn't keep that well in the fridge. i might follow your method next time!
