Cheese Souffle - Not a good picture! |
"I thought it would be good." That's what my husband had to say about my souffle! Where do you go from there? We're visiting family in Memphis so I did my French Friday cooking in my sister-in-law's kitchen. I thought I would wow her and my niece and my mother-in-law with my cooking skills. Thankfully, my niece's boyfriend, Jeff was also there. He was the only one who liked it. Thank you Jeff!
Jeff felt Frenchiefied! I've decided Jeff's a keeper. I'm not sure about the rest of them:)
The recipe is good. Maybe I needed a stronger cheese. I used Emmentaler. I think the souffle was good. You can see it had good rise! Maybe if I'd served it with a nice salad for lunch. Maybe we needed more wine. They wondered if sugar would help....
It was a beautiful evening in Memphis. The redbuds and dogwoods are in bloom. A few of the azaleas too. Its good to have time with family. Next time I'll make them hamburgers!
Maybe the souffle was more appreciated in other
French Friday kitchens.

ReplyDeleteI think your souffle is gorgeous and I bet it tasted delicious! I made mine with emmentaler, too and thought it could use a stronger cheese next time. My husband and I both really enjoyed it!
I'm thinking the souffle would have more flavor with a stronger cheese. I'm going to try bleu next time.
ReplyDeleteYour souffle looks perfect. I admit that I added extra flavors and glad I did, but what's not to like? Yes, it probably needs a side like a salad, but they all should have been impressed...just being around all those beautiful flowers would have made a lovely setting for this dish...it all sounds elegant to me.

ReplyDeleteI think it looks perfect. I definitely have those meals where the efforts weren't quite as appreciated as I would have liked. When that happens, there is a bit of a joke in our family where I tell whoever didn't like dinner that "you USED to be my daughter: :-)
ReplyDeleteI think your souffle looks wonderful, Guyla. I think souffle may be overrated in general because they're touted as something difficult to make - they are, but not terribly. I'm not a huge fan of eggs, but I'm glad you found an appreciative audience!
ReplyDeleteGayla, Long live Jeff. More wine may have been needed. I used gruyère and loved the result. I think your soufflé looked gorgeous. That's a thought. The souffle is so touted that our expectations may be too high. Good for you for making this in a strange kitchen. Mary Hirsch

It looks lovely! I'm glad you had one person on your side at the table. I used an aged Irish cheddar in mine and the flavour was fantastic, so I think going for a stronger cheese is a good idea. Someone else suggested bacon or ham, too.
